The lecture “Elucidation of oxygen sensing pathways in human and animal cells; implications for Physiology” by esteemed professor Dr. Peter Ratcliffe of Oxford University delves into the topic of physoxia head on. Dr. Ratcliffe provides relevant and interesting data from across his career’s work in solving mechanisms by which cells sense and signal hypoxia. The talk itself covers a variety of topics, including: a brief history of O2 sensing, biochemical O2 pathways (ie HIF’s), physiological oxygen homeostasis, and oxygen sensing in drug discovery. This lecture should prove to be useful for all investigators. It provides a rationale for why oxygen is an important molecule to physiological research for those in the early stages of attempting hypoxic/physoxic studies. Yet, it also speaks to those who are well versed in the subject as it helps these researchers reflect on important oxygen sensing questions pertaining to their current research, and further provides a few areas they may want to focus on. Give it a watch below. To see a full list of Scintica Instrumentation’s in vivo and in vitro hypoxia options that may support your future research, follow this link to our hypoxia page here.
