Job Summary – Financial Controller

At Scintica we are committed to advancing science by bringing new and interesting products to preclinical labs and assisting scientists with implementing these technologies into their research protocols. Our products include imaging modalities such as ultrasound, PET/CT, MRI, bioluminescence/fluorescence, DEXA, photoacoustic, and intra-vital microscopy. We also offer physiological monitoring devices to measure blood flow velocity, tissue oxygenation, and microvascular function, as well as a selection of equipment and supplies for cellular and molecular biology.

The Financial Controller role is critical to ensuring the smooth running of the Company’s financial operations. This includes responsibility for all day-to-day accounting functions, administration of the Company’s ERP system(s), oversight of the Company’s internal accounting controls, as well as managing month-end close and monthly financial reporting. This role is a key go-to person for Scintica team members on their day-to-day finance questions and will be office-based in London, Ontario.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in helping Scintica take its finance and accounting operations to the next level, including a new ERP implementation within the next 12 months. As the Company grows, there will be opportunities to expand the scope of the role and related responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations for all legal entities, including ownership of the general ledger(s)
  • Ensure revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP standards (ASPE)
  • Oversee month-end close and monthly consolidation
  • Ensure timely preparation of monthly internal financial statements
  • Record customer receipts in AR module
  • Record recurring monthly/annual GL transactions
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations
  • Ensure appropriate internal controls are in place to satisfy Internal Control over Financial Reporting (ICFR)
  • Oversee all day-to-day cash management activities
  • Proactively identify opportunities to continuously improve on internal accounting/financial controls, including written policies and procedures
  • Manage and administer Company’s ERP system, acting as super-user, able to troubleshoot inconsistencies and/or data integrity issues
  • Maintain Company’s transfer pricing environment, ensuring intercompany entries are consistent with documented policy
  • Contribute to monthly financial and operational reporting package to shareholders and management, including relevant analysis
  • Assist with regular reporting requests to satisfy third-party service providers (i.e. banks, insurers, tax service providers, manufacturing clients, etc)
  • Investigate new accounting standards (ASPE and/or US GAAP) as applicable, to ensure understanding and appropriate adoption

 

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have:

  • CPA designation strongly preferred, with minimum 5 years of progressively senior experience in industry
  • Solid experience in accounting and month-end processes
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and analyze financial statements, including consolidation
  • Excellent knowledge of ERP systems and data integration requirements
  • Experience in a multinational organization with multiple legal entities and transfer-pricing arrangements
  • Experience in a multi-currency environment
  • Strong communication skills with an ability to translate financial information to non-financial team members
  • Strong organizational skills, with an ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize work not only for themselves but for the finance team
  • Willingness and ability to train and coach junior team members
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Good judgment
